Restaurant Nuevo

Had a dinner with friends last weekend at Nuevo, a Spanish restaurant on Sofiankatu in Helsinki. I have been there several times previosly, but not for few years.

We were four and shared cold and hot tapas selections; Ginger and pineapple salsa with Serrano ham, Fish terrine with mushroom salad, Marinated vegetables with mozzarella cheese, Mousse with pickled whitefish accompanied with blood orange jelly, Onion pie with Chorizo sausage accompanied with peach, Cheek of beef braised in red wine accompanied with pesto bread, Nevat cheese tortilla with alioli and dried tomatoes and smoked vendaces with garlic and tomato sauce.

There was one of each and it was quite messy to share them even between two. The ones I tasted were good, I liked the braised Cheek of beef the best. They also had very good fresh bread directly from oven served with olive oil and balsamico.

We all took solomillo, grilled fillet steak with bacon and potato tortilla accompanied with garlic and
sweet pepper sauce for main course. For "something between main course and dessert" we had fried manchego and appel hot. Did not take desserts.

Service was friendly, but a bit too slow. Fortunately we weren't in hurry. Our first waiter spoke only English, I have lately noted in many places there are waiters speaking only English.

Nuevo was more pricey than I remembered, main courses are between 16,50 and 33 EUR, wines started from 37 EUR/bottle. Food was good, but probably I will not go back very soon. I would have liked a bit more value and attention for the money we paid.
