Royal wedding fever

The Swedish royal wedding fever starts to show also here in Helsinki.

My royalist colleague will travel to Stockhom hoping to see the happy couple live and exprience the wedding hype. We gave her a Daniel & Victoria pin to wear in Stockholm. She was so taken by it that she wore it immediately.

I have seen also few wedding themed shop windows, Design Laakso& Sundman being the most impressive.

Stockmann department store advertised the official wedding chocolate in Thursday morning's paper. Later yesterday afternoon found out that the chocolates were already sold out. Fortunately I scored a box early in the morning for Saturday's royal TV marathon.

Onneksi rojalisti-kollegani kävi aamulla hakemassa minullekin rasian lauantain kotikatsomoon.

Cocktail ring

I received this big  Design Sundman & Laakso sterling silver cocktail ring for my 40th birthday from Husband.

I wear it occasionally insted of my engagement and wedding bands when I am in a bling mood... And when I am not wearing it, it is on dispay on a finger of a vintage  rubber glove mould with a Tiffany sterling silver bangle

Olen saanut tämän suuren hopeisen Design Sundman & Laakson cocktailsormuksen Siipalta 40-vuotislahjaksi.

Feel good green

These green goods and products are some of my favorites and make me feel good when I wear or use them;

love the fresh scent of Roger&Gallet green tea edt and shower cream I bought from Paris last time, green liquor glass is from my grandmother's estate, green bracelet is made by my sister in law, neglace is also made by my sister in law, glass beads used in it I bought in New York, green bowl I bought long time ago from an artisanal in arts festival in Miami and lime... well, I just love the sharp flavour of lime.

Nämä vihreät tavarat ja tuotteet ovat suosikkejani;

pidän kovasti Pariisista viime matkalta ostamani Roger & Galletin vihreä tee-edt:n sekä suihkugeelin raikkaasta tuoksusta, vihreä liköörilasi on isoäitini jäämistöstä, rannekorun ja kaulakorun on kälyni tehnyt, vihreän kulhon ostin taiteilijalta Miamin taidemessuilta vuosia sitten ja lime... rakastan limen terävää makua!

Jewellery rack

I had problems to store my neglaces and bracelets, mostly semiprecious stones and sterling silver, until I bought these Ikea racks. Now most of my jewellery is neatly stored behind bedroom door.

Tiffany part 2

I bought this 1837 series bracelet at Tiffany's in Las Vegas four years ago, we spent four fun days on our West Coast honeymoon there. I have used this bracelet a lot since (and am wearing it also right now), as you can see there are already many little dents and scratches. I wear it on all occasions.

Etsy

Bought this pendat at Etsy this morning for 15 $; 12 $ + 3$ shipping to Finland.

It is a beautifully aged poker chip that has been decoupaged with a carefully scavenged bit of 1906 Japanese ephemera to create a large, one of a kind pendant. Will use it on a long silver chain. I have other round pendants in sterling silver and semiprecious stones, this will be a nice addition to my collection.

Tiffany part 1

Every time I go to New York, I "have" to visit Tiffany... and buy a small token as souvenier. Sometimes I pay it, sometimes Husband buys it and sometimes we share the cost.

Tiffany has lost some of it's high status as some of their stores can be found in malls and they have on line store, but still it's very pleasant to visit their flagship store on 5th Avenue. The store is stylish and their sevice is impeccable. The sterling silver collections have expanded, I am not so fond of all theid designs, but they have many simple and stylish items. I have some gold jewellery, but I tend to use silver and semiprecious gemstones. The only yellow gold jewellery I frequently use is my heavy, plain, simple wedding band I use with matching white gold engagement ring.

I spent my 40th birthday in New York, Husband took me to Tiffany's then. I selected the pendant on right. The original chain is thinner and shorter, but I prefer to keep it on this longer chain. Matching bracelet I bought during my latest visit in July.

New York stores

New York has huge variety of speaciality stores.

Fishs Eddy on Broadway/19th street has their own designs and a good variety of vintage plates, they also have vintage printing cylinders and rubber glove molds that make interesting home decorations and conversation pieces.

A Red Hook garden center had a great commercial truck.

There are several interesting antique stores on Atlantic Avenue, Boerum Hill in Brooklyn.

6th Avenue and side streets from around 30th to 35th are a beader's paradise.

The Upper Rust on 9th street new Thomson Square Park in East Village has interesting mix vintage and new pieces.

A new, bright look

I usually go for black and neutral colours, but have now a bright, flattering look for more formal parties for years to come. Too often we choose “safe” muted and dark colours and forget how flattering many “real colours” can be.
My colleague was getting married; I had an embroided dupion red wrap dress and matching plain skirt made for me of a fabric I found in Villisilkki on Yrjönkatu. It turned out very good, but needed matching bag, shoes and jewellery.

Matching red leather purse I found on a Pietarinkatu second hand store in Helsinki. I visited several bead stores in New York to find matching red beads, but only bright red beads I found were of coral. To my knowledge coral is unethical, harvested from live coral reefs. So instead of monochrome look I decided to go to opposite colors.

Found huge bright green faceted beads on Bead Empire on 6th Avenue in New York. Mariia at Design Sundman & Laakso in Pieni Rooberinkatu in Helsinki beaded me the necklace.

Still needed shoes and was still looking for a red pair, but finally found great beaded green shoes on Auringosta itään, kuusta länteen on Fredrikinkatu.
