This small old English calendar I found in a little antique shop in New Canaan, CT when we visited my old neibourghoods (I have been an au pair in Connecticut years ago)
We had decided to buy only American antiques/vintage, but how could I resist this even if the dog's leg is broken... It still reminds us of a great journey together.
Tämän pienen vanhan englantilaisen kalenterin löysin New Canaanista Connecticutista ajellessamme ympäri vanhoja "kotikulmiani". (Olen ollut au pairina Connecticutissa vuosia sitten).
Olimme päättäneet ostaa vain amerikkalasta antiikkia/vintagea, mutta kuinka olisin voinut vastustaa tätä, vaikka koiran takajalka onkin poikki. Se muistuttaa meitä yhdestä hienosta reissusta yhdessä.

I have wanted to buy vintage different millinery wood hat brim molds and make a collage of them on wall, but unfortunately our walls are quite full already...Vintage ones are often available at ebay and new ones can be found for example here.

This hornorary prize from year 1955 we found in Paris Puces de Paris Saint-Ouen fleamarket. It is placed above vintage icon from Poland and my grandmoter's painting.
Tämän karjanäytteyn kunniapalkinnon vuodelta 1955 löysimme Saint-Ouenin kirpputorilta Pariisissa. Se on Puolasta osatamamme ikonin ja mummini maalaamaan muotokuvan yllä keittiötä ja olohuonetta rajaavaan pilariin kiinnitettynä.
I saw these vintage rubber glove moulds at Fishs Eddyin New York on summer 2007, but could not fit one in my hand luggage anymore, I had already bought a wooden decoy duck in Cape Cod and six big and heavy dinner plates and six small but equally heave smaller plates at Fishs Eddy.
I still had this "hand" in my mind when we travelled again to New York next spring. They still existed, most moulds were bigger, but I can place my rings on the slender fingers and a bracelet hanging from the thumb of this mould.
I also had my eyes on a printing cylinder, but could not fit it in my hand luggage that time. Fortunately they still existed (partly forgotten under a desk, sales clercks were really suprised to see the cylinder, they did not know they had them for sale) when we (again) travelled to New York last summer. Poor Husband had the priviledge to carry home the 15 pound metal cylinder in his hand luggage... (Imagine the security check officers at JFK looking at the x-ray pictures and listening to my esplanation what it was and what th epalnned use was for the cylinder...) It will make a lamp stand. This project has taken months, but will hopefully be ready this week.
Näin vanhoja kumihansikasmuotteja New Yorkin-matkallamme vuonna 2007 Fishs Eddy-liikkeestä, mutta sillä kertaa ne eivät mahtuneet käsimatkatavaraamme, olihan meillä jo Cape Codista ostettu puinen houkutuslintu sekä Fishs Eddystä ostetut kuusi isoa, painavaa sekä kuusi pienempää, mutta painavaa lautasta.
"Käsi" oli edelleen mielessäni kun matkasimme seuraavana keväänä taas New Yorkiin. Muotteja oli jäljellä, suurin osa tosin oli melko isoja. Löysin kuitenkin tämän ohutsormisen muotin, jonka sormiin voin pujottaa sormuksiani ja peukalosta roikkumaan rannekorun.
Tällä reissulla iskin silmäni metalliseen painosylinteriin, mutta se sai odottaa seuraavaa reissua. Kesällä 2009 matkasimme jälleen New Yorkiin ja hienoja painosylintereitä oli hieman unohdettuna vielä yhden myyntitiskin alla. Myyjät eivät tienneet niiden olemassaolosta... Siippa-raukka sai kunnian kantaa kotiini 7 kg painavan sylinterin käsimatkatavarassaan (kuvitelkaa turvatarkastajien ilmeet Kennedyn kentällä, kun he ihmettelivät moista kapistusta). Siitä tulee upea lampunjalka, projekti on vienyt kuukausia, mutta toivottavasti jo tällä viikolla valaisin valmistuu.
Husband found these coin bags few years ago in a vintage shop in Cape Cod and asked if I could make pillows out of them. I filled them with flock and closed them with few stitches. I try to take 1/2 h on Sundays to nap and lay my head in either of these coin bag pillows.
Siippa löysi nämä kolikkopussit antiikkikaupasta Cape Codista ja kysyi voisiko niistä tehdä tyynyjä. Täytin pussit vanulla ja painan pääni niille viikonlopputorkuilla.
Besides commercial signs, I also collect old tins. I have found these oriental tea and tobacco tins in Finnish antique markets for few euros. Some of the oriental/Turkish tins I have seen in vintage stores abroad have been very expensive, up to 700 EUR.
Paitsi peltikylttejä, keräilen myös peltirasioita. Nämä orientaalipurkit ovat löytyneet suomalaisilta antiikkimarkkinoilta muutamalla eurolla. Orientti-painetut tupakka- tai teepurkit voivat maksaa jopa satoja euroja, ne ovat Keski-Euroopassa selvästi haluttua keräilytavaraa.

This one I found in Billnäs antique market in Southern Finland some years ago. It's no in mint condition, but I thought it still was lovely.
I have gone almost yearly to the Billnäs market every July for 15 years and never have come home empty handed... It's the beginning of summer holidays, the three day antique market is usually held on the first weekend of July, just when my summer holidy starts. Weather has always been wonderful, sunny and warm. Tämän löysin Billnäsin antiikkimarkkinoilta muutama vuosi sitten. Kyltti ei ole ihan huippukunnossa, mutta se silti viehättävä.
Olen käynyt miltei vuosittain Billnäsin markkinoilla, enkä ole koskaan tullut kotiin tyhjin käsin... Billnäsin antiikkimarkkinat heinäkuun alussa ovat minulle ja ystävilleni loman aloitusrituaali. Ilmakin on aina ollut lämmin ja aurinkoinen. Olemme vielä markkinoiden jälkeen suunnanneet joen toiselle puolelle picnicille jatkamaan mukavaa iltapäivää ja vertailemaan löytöjämme.

I have wanted a vintage bus route sign since I saw one several montsh ago (maybe last year) in Australian home and interior magazine Inside Out. They look cool in their vintage/industrial way. Thie first one is on sale in online shop Paris Hotel Boutique. The other picture is from blog Deside to Inspire.
Unfortunately my walls are so full of other vintage signs and art, so there is no room for these. Will post photos of my signs later on.
Fishs Eddy on Broadway/19th street has their own designs and a good variety of vintage plates, they also have vintage printing cylinders and rubber glove molds that make interesting home decorations and conversation pieces.
